USE OF LASER IN TREATING GUM PROBLEMS
Laser therapy is a treatment option that can be used to address a variety of issues related to gum health. It is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a laser to remove damaged tissue and bacteria from the gums. The laser energy also promotes healing and regeneration of healthy tissue.
One common use of laser therapy is for the treatment of gum disease (periodontitis). The laser is used to remove plaque and tartar from the gums and tooth surfaces, and to reshape the gums to reduce pockets, which can harbor bacteria. The procedure is usually done with local anesthetic and patient experience minimal discomfort.
Laser therapy can also be used to treat gum recession, which occurs when the gums pull away from the teeth and expose the roots. The laser is used to stimulate the growth of new tissue and to reshape the gums to cover the exposed roots.
It’s important to keep in mind that laser gum therapy is not a substitute for good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups and cleanings, but it can be used as an adjunct treatment to improve and maintain oral health.
